In de haven van de Australische stad Sydney is een 12-jarige jongen zwaargewond geraakt bij een aanval door een haai. De jongen heeft ernstige verwondingen aan zijn benen opgelopen en ligt op de intensive care.

De jongen was gisteren met vrienden van een 6 meter hoge rots gesprongen bij de populaire zwemplek Shark Beach, die anders dan de naam doet vermoeden niet bekendstaat om haaienaanvallen. Het slachtoffer was al door zijn vrienden uit het water gehaald toen de hulpverleners arriveerden.

Ze krijgen daarvoor veel lof van politie en autoriteiten. Premier Minns van de deelstaat New South Wales noemt het een moedige daad.
